Our intrinsic nature is that of pure consciousness and interconnectedness

What if we were all truly interconnected? What if we could genuinely experience one anothers’ joy and pain in equal measure? Would it make us more mindful of others?

These are questions I find myself contemplating when I think about the PSiNLP pre-supposition:

“Our intrinsic nature is that of pure consciousness and interconnectedness.”

There are many spiritual approaches that talk about how we are all connected at a deep level but what if it was even more fundamental than that?

I was reading an article in a scientific magazine this week about the nature of yawning! Most people have experienced the phenomena of contagious yawning however this article went on to suggest that we are even more likely to yawn if the instigator is emotionally close to us. It was suggested this is part of bonding with relations, friends and social groups.

This may tie in with ideas such as mirror neurons. The article went on to talk about contagious yawning as a form of empathy. The more in empathy (or to use the NLP term rapport) we are with the other person the more likely we are to yawn if they do.

This idea is  simple and perhaps might seem quite trivial, however have you ever found yourself moved to tears when someone shares a powerful personal story with you? Have you ever felt a sense of pride hearing about how another has conquered a personal obstacle bravely against the odds? Maybe you have felt a sense of achievement when your team has one the match even though you were just a spectator!

NB: Just read back that last paragraph and noticed I had put “one” where the word “won” should grammatically be! I decided to leave it as it is because when you think about it, it makes sense does it not!

Just goes to show my unconscious, which is my pure consciousness is way ahead of my conscious thinking in this!

Right now I am just following my own stream of consciousness, I don’t even know what I am going to write next I am just going with the flow. What would happen if we all trusted our intrinsic nature and acted from a place of interconnectedness?

If we were able to accept that place surely there would be an end to acts of cruelty and personal competitiveness. If we felt the pain of others as if it were our own we would refrain from acts that added to it.

Yet what if the ideas described in Richard Bach‘s book “Illusions” is what it is really about? What if we are connected at a deeper level but we are also interested in savouring the full range of human experience? That we come back life time after life time experiencing different aspects of existence not just human but other forms as well?

We can look at the idea of pure consciousness and interconnectedness from the perspective of atoms. It is suggested that we are constantly exchanging atoms. If atoms are the foundation of all aspects of the universe then we are all aspects of the universe.

We were once all the centre of stars. You are a star!

We could get even more focused now when we consider that atoms are made up of other structures. Wow! Where do we stop in our thinking? Perhaps we don’t.

And what if pure consciousness was pure energy, the spark and it is only an illusion that we exist as separate beings in separate physical form?

These thoughts, if a little random this week feel appropriate as a way of exploring our PSiNLP presupposition:

“Our intrinsic nature is that of pure consciousness and interconnectedness.”

I am left feeling the need for some quiet time now to reflect on my own words. I would love to hear what you think and feel. Do share your own streams of consciousness in the form of comments.

Take the opportunity to express our interconnectedness however you feel moved to do so. What is your understanding of our intrinsic nature?
